This comes as a surprise as climate phenomenon El Nino has ended, but it clearly didn’t.
Temperatures exceeded 1.75 degrees C above pre-industrial levels, and it is 0.09 degrees C greater than last January of 2024. If you live in the US, you know how cold it can get especially in a climate plagued 2025, but despite La Nina and the cold, we still ended up with a record.
La Nina is the decrease of ocean temperatures, and the opposite, El Nino, is the increase of ocean surface temperatures.
