COP, or conference of the parties is an annual climate meeting in which world leaders meet to take action, but it has been notoriously known for holding false promises. Last year, it was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, but this year, since it is in Brazil, it could be mean something big.
Brazil, home to the Amazon Rainforest, is full of biodiversity. This could unlock key opportunities to tackle the climate crisis in Brazil and beyond. It can do 3 things for us.
- Highlight economic struggles for developing countries. As Brazil is a wealthy nation, it could unlock better opportunities for developing countries to tackle the climate crisis and give them financial support.
- The Amazon Rainforest is massive and since it is being held in an Amazonian city of Belem, it could help the rainforest. They could halt any deforestation, or further development of the Amazon Rainforest. In addition, it could fully stop any fossil fuel expansion.
This is a chance to take decisive action to secure the future of our planet.
