With this short film ‘Becoming’, Jan van IJken shows the wonder of the origin of life. To the smallest details we see the ‘making of’ of an alpine salamander in the transparent egg, from the first cell division to hatching. A single cell is transformed into a complete, complex living organism with a beating heart and circulating blood. The first stages of embryo development are roughly the same for all people and animals. In the film we witness a process that remains normally invisible: the very beginning of the life of an animal. The film has screened more than 20 international film festivals and has won awards at the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival and Science Films Abu Dhabi.
