About Earth Alert
Climate change is not a figment of the imagination. On the contrary, the effects of global warming are clearly visible everywhere. More forest fires, more floods, more melting ice, more climate refugees, more droughts and rising sea levels. If people continue like this, climate change will become uncontrollable within a decade and the consequences will no longer be visible.
There should no longer be any discussion that man is the cause of climate change. Since the industrial revolution, so many greenhouse gases have been pumped into the air by humans that the composition of our atmosphere has changed. There is even a new geological era, the Anthropocene: the proposed current geological epoch in which humans are the primary cause of permanent planetary change. Our atmosphere to this moment has values that correspond with those of 2.5 million years ago! We can expect a very harsh environment for people in the future and it’s too late to go back!
The videos that you can view on Earth Alert are about ecological problems and solutions. Scientists, philosophers, economists, activists, filmmakers, journalists, writers etc. show and hear their visions. According to Kate Raworth, we are forced to have a circular and sustainable economy that is schematically similar to a donut. We will have to solve more problems than just climate change according to Johan Rockström beause humanity has also exceeded other planetary boundaries. And Michael Shellenberger is wondering if can we afford the luxury to no longer use CO2-free nuclear energy. Not all videos tell exactly the same story. Look, listen and judge for yourself.
Mankind has caused the current problems on earth and therefore we can solve it again. But we must remember the words of Albert Einstein: “We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.” It’s necessary that mankind jumps to ‘the next level of awareness’. Listen for instance to the words of Jane Goodall: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
