El Nino had a 62% chance of forming this summer, and it has. There is an 81% chance it will strengthen into a stronger event between October and December. According to Earth.org, “If sea surface temperatures in the Nino-monitored region of the Pacific exceed 2C, then the event is considered “very strong.”
This climate phenomenon can take place every 2 yrs – 7 yrs. It is associated with the sea surface temperatures of the Tropical Pacific Ocean. In addition, it can lead to erratic weather all over the world, such as droughts in Africa and typhoons in the northwestern Pacific.
