Carbon Dioxide levels were the highest on record in 2024

This isn’t a surprise as it the most abundant greenhouse gas on the planet.

The average for 2024 was 424 ppm, or parts per million. This is the highest number since observation of C02 levels begun in 1958 in Mauna Loa. In 2024, a climate phenomenon called El Nino increased the concentration of C02. El Nino is warmer than average sea surface temperatures. La Nina, the opposite, is the decrease of sea surface temperatures.
